Thread forming screws produce their own metric thread when screwed into the workpiece – without producing chips. These screws are driven into either pre-drilled or pre-cast holes. Thread forming screws comply with the DIN 7500 standard for self-threading screws. In the field of fastening technology, thread forming screws are used to create direct screw connections, e.g., in steel and aluminum, thanks to their high tensile strength, enormous load-bearing capacity and excellent durability.

Thread forming screws: Key differences to other self-threading screw types
What are thread forming screws and how do they differ from other self-threading screws?
Thread forming screws comply with the DIN 7500 standard for self-threading screws. Self-threading screws create their threads themselves in various ways – for example, thread forming screws achieve this without cutting and usually in combination with a pre-drilled hole.
Other sub-variants of the self-threading screw include thread-cutting or self-tapping screws as well as thread-drilling screws.
Self-tapping screws comply with the DIN 7513 standard. These screws cut their own thread when they are screwed into a pre-drilled core hole.
Thread-drilling screws in turn comply with the DIN 7504 standard. This screw variant eliminates an additional work step, namely pre-drilling. Rather than cutting their way into the material, thread-drilling screws drill their own hole by means of an integrated drill bit at the end of the screw.
