Rivets are cylindrical fasteners made of metal or plastic with a pre-formed head at one end (the “factory head”). They are ductile and mainly used to connect flat materials such as printed circuit boards and sheet metal.
Their main advantage compared to screws? None of the components being connected need a thread. They simply require a punched or drilled hole that is slightly bigger than the rivet itself. The rivet is pushed through the hole and the pressure then forms a head – known as the “shop head” or “buck tail”. Depending on the size of the rivet and the pressure required, this process can be done using a hammer, a specific rivet tool or a hydraulic press.
Form-fit rivet joints between components are secure and permanent. Drive rivets, or expanding style push-in rivets, are particularly suitable for efficient and cost-effective series production in equipment manufacturing because they are low weight and quick to install. They are, therefore, primarily used in lightweight constructions such as in aircraft manufacturing and shipbuilding and, of course, in the electronics industry. Rivets with a diameter of more than 8mm are hammered whilst hot. This means that they are heated in a forge to a yellow heat (1100°C) and then hammered while still glowing hot. As the metal bolt cools down, it contracts and joins the two components together. Accordingly, a distinction is made between hot rivet and cold rivet connections. Rivets with different head shapes are used depending on the application.

DIN 7340 tubular rivets
Our standard tubular rivets to DIN 7340 are manufactured from seamless, drawn precision tubes and therefore have a cylindrical shank with a constant wall thickness. Blind rivets
