Sheet metal screws belong to the family of self-tapping screws, or more precisely, to the group of thread-forming screws. When self-tapping the thread, they displace the material in the pre-drilled hole (core hole) and rigidify it without cutting. If you want to dispense with pre-drilling, then drilling screws are a suitable alternative. In the case of very thin materials, the core hole may not be necessary. Then, however, the screws should be screwed in slowly and evenly to obtain a clean nut female thread.
Sheet metal screws are used to join thin sheet metal, for sheet metal cladding – such as profiled sheets – and for plastic panels. Their main advantage compared to blind rivets or welding/gluing techniques is that the screw connection between the components can subsequently be undone.

The right sheet metal screws for your application
Our sheet metal screws are available with different head shapes and drive types, and with a pointed (form type C) or non-pointed screw thread (form type F). We recommend the following types for certain applications:
Sheet metal screws with cylinder head in accordance with DIN 7971 / ISO 1481 and slot or with hexalobular socket (Torx®, also called internal serrations) in accordance with ISO 14585C – ideal for deep core holes.
Sheet metal screws with countersunk head or raised countersunk head in accordance with ISO 14586C and Torx® or according to DIN 7982 / ISO 7050 and DIN 7983 / ISO 7051 and cross slot – if a flat surface is required.
Sheet metal screws with raised head in accordance with DIN 7981 / ISO 7049 and cross slot Phillips (form type H) or cross slot Pozidriv (form type Z) – a visually appealing solution for flat surfaces.
