Dowel pins from ETTINGER
Pin connections are used in mechanical engineering when workpieces need to be positively connected in the radial direction of the fasteners. Pressing or swaging an oversize pin into a drill hole creates a force fit that ensures a durable connection. Depending on their shape, a distinction is made between taper pins, dowel pins, grooved pins and cylindrical pins, which serve the following functions:
- Fixing of components
- Securing bolts and nuts
- Limiting travel (stop pins)
- Cantilever assemblies
- Spring retainers
- Shear-resistant connections
The choice of pin shape depends, among other things, on the required seating strength, detachability, shear force and fixing accuracy. Dowel pins are ideal for positionally stable connections, whereby detachability is not the primary concern.

The following dowel pins are available to order
Our range includes cylindrical pins made of hardened or unhardened steel, with or without a female thread, in different nominal diameters and nominal lengths – if required, also with surface treatment as well as various tolerance ranges. In addition, we carry corrosion-resistant versions in A1 and A4 stainless steel.
Our cylindrical pins comply with the DIN 7 or ISO 2338 standards, in each case in the m6 tolerance range: The standards are usually interchangeable. Please note, however, that according to DIN the total length is specified without the crests, while according to ISO the crests are included. We supply threaded cylindrical pins to ISO 8733 (m6 tolerance range, hardened). Our ISO 8734 or DIN 6325 (standard withdrawn) products are through-hardened and also have an m6 fit. Other tolerance ranges are available on request.
