Countersunk screws have a funnel-shaped screw head that is set at a 90° angle to the shaft. The screw head is wide at the top and becomes narrower towards the thread. In fastening technology, countersunk screws are also often referred to as "flat-head screws". This type of screw is used, among other things, as a traditional machine screw in mechanical engineering applications. Countersunk screws can be completely recessed into the corresponding workpiece and lie flush with the surface. Therefore, the risk of injury is also particularly low with this type of screw. Likewise, countersunk screws offer visual advantages due to their completely flush position.
The ETTINGER range includes a wide selection of countersunk screws with various drive types:
- Countersunk screw with Torx (hexalobular socket) Countersunk screws with Torx drive offer the advantage that high torque can be transmitted with a low load on the drive at the same time.
Countersunk screws with hexagon sockets can be easily fixed and loosened using a socket wrench and slip-on sockets. This makes them ideal for fastening components in particularly confined spaces.
Slotted countersunk screws are a popular classic in fastening technology, as this drive type is more cost-effective compared to other variants due to its simple manufacturing method.
Depending on the application, a countersunk screw with a cross slot can be a good alternative to a countersunk screw with a single slot. The cross-slotted version can translate the torques much better than a standard slotted screw. Therefore, at ETTINGER you will find the following cross-slot drives:
Overview of popular countersunk screw variants
In addition to the various drive types, such as Torx or hexagon socket, there are additional options for countersunk screws due to the different standards, materials and thread sizes. The ETTINGER range includes a wide selection of countersunk screws in many different variants.
Countersunk screws to various DIN and ISO standards
Increasingly, the common DIN standard published by the German Institute for Standardization is being replaced by the internationally widespread ISO standard. At ETTINGER, you will find numerous countersunk screws listed under both the applicable DIN standard as well as the corresponding ISO standard.
ETTINGER's range includes countersunk screws that meet the following DIN and ISO standards:
- Countersunk screw DIN 7991 – this corresponds to the ISO standard 10642
- Countersunk screw DIN 963 – corresponds to ISO 2009
- Countersunk screw ISO 14581 – there is no analogous DIN standard for this type of countersunk screw
- Countersunk screw DIN 965 – this corresponds to the ISO standard 7046
- Countersunk screw DIN 966 – corresponds to ISO 7047
Countersunk screws: Diverse materials and surfaces
Depending on the specific application and material, different materials and surfaces are available when choosing countersunk screws.
ETTINGER carries the following variants, among others:
- Stainless steel countersunk screws
Compared to a screw made of regular steel, a stainless steel countersunk screw is corrosion resistant and therefore also less likely to be damaged by various liquids, such as water or certain acids. - Steel countersunk screws
If corrosion resistance is not a priority for your application, steel countersunk screws are also available instead of the more expensive stainless steel variants. - Plastic countersunk screws
Countersunk screws made of PA 6.6 or PA 6.0 are also corrosion resistant and are characterized by their low dead weight.
The surface is also important when choosing the right countersunk screw. Browse our wide range of screws and find the right surface finish for your countersunk screw:
- Bare countersunk screws
The bare variant of the countersunk screw is completely untreated and therefore has no special corrosion protection. - Blue galvanized countersunk screws or black galvanized countersunk screws
Galvanized countersunk screws have an additional protective coating and are therefore more resistant to corrosion. - Burnished countersunk screws
The burnishing process, which is also referred to as "precious rust", gives the countersunk screws a black finish that also looks particularly elegant. - Nickel-plated countersunk screws
Nickel-plated countersunk screws are corrosion resistant – even against diluted acids and most alkalis. Besides corrosion protection, nickel-plated screws also serve a decorative function.
Countersunk screws in different thread sizes
A wide range of countersunk screws with the following thread sizes can be found in the ETTINGER product range:
