When it comes to determining which thread-forming screws are suitable for plastic, self-tapping screws are often a preferred solution. Self-tapping screws for plastic cut their own thread when driven into the corresponding workpiece. In the field of fastening technology, this screw variant is often also referred to as a PT screw. PT screws for plastic: Advantages and areas of application
Self-tapping screws for plastics or thermoplastics such as PA, PP and PE are a popular alternative to the standard combination of screw and nut. These self-tapping screws are screwed directly into plastic components and thus enable especially flat and thin-walled designs. Since self-tapping PT screws create their own thread with an exact fit, this screw variant also eliminates the need for a nut.
In addition, they have the following advantages during assembly:
- Self-tapping screws for plastic don't require a screw tap for fastening, which reduces tooling costs.
- PT screws for plastic generally eliminate the need for additional screw locking.
- Since thread cutting is not necessary for self-tapping screws for plastic, the assembly costs are reduced further still.
